As promised, I got out to a few favourite local spots for some photography today. I missed some of the species I was after, but got a few decent shots nonetheless.

Spring Peeper (Pseudacris crucifer) see more...
Northern Leopard Frog (Lithobates pipiens) see more...

Slow Week
It's been a slow week for photography, mostly because it's been a busy week for other things! Not much new to report, but here's a skipper photo that's been sitting in the sort pile for some time.
European Skipper (Thymelicus lineola)
That's all I've got for now. However, I am currently looking at a clear Sunday, and there's good potential for some camera-ing :).

Image Index now online!
So after many hours of sorting thousands of photos, and painstakingly separating the keepers from the reference photos from the garbage, I have begun the editing and uploading for a full image index on my website. I have been planning to do this for a long time, but it takes forever! Nonetheless, last night I managed to get a bunch of amphibians online.
This index will allow one to search or browse the photos in a relatively effective way. It also includes a bunch of photos that have never been online before, so you should check it out! I am hoping to continue uploading new things in the coming weeks (and maybe even move on from amphibians...), so be sure to keep an eye on it!
To see it, go here: http://www.kylehorner.com/photography/image_index.html. It can also be accessed from the "Photography" page of my website.

Website Updates
I have been doing some updating and changing of the website! Nothing major, mostly some housekeeping and minor improvements. Feel free to head on over and check it out, especially the workshops and field trips sections which have been rearranged. I am also working on some new workshops and field trips for the fall, so be sure to have a look!

Black Rat Snake...sort of...
Well last weekend I took off to eastern Ontario in search of the elusive Black Rat Snake*. Having only a day and a half to find one, I (and my intrepid co-herper) searched intensively. We were very nearly skunked, and found only one individual hiding in a crack in an old timber building. Hardly even counts as a sighting! Here is the best look we got:
Black Rat Snake (Elaphe obsoleta**)
Fortunately, the weekend was not a total bust, as we did find a few other herps.
Red-spotted Newt (Notophthalmus viridescens)
Red-spotted Newt (Notophthalmus viridescens)
Snapping Turtle (Chelydra serpentina)
Northern Water Snake (Nerodia sipedon)
That's all for now!

*The powers-that-be would have you call this a Grey Rat Snake. Until they can show me a grey one in Ontario they can bite me.
**The same powers would have you use any number of latin names (depending on which week you ask in).

Skimmer and more...
I've got a new batch of photos sitting in the sort pile - I will get them up soon when I have a spare moment. In the meantime, here's a really cooperative dragonfly!

New Product - Buttons!!
Just in today, pinback buttons! I decided to try these out for the upcoming reptile expo (hence the snakey theme), and they look great! These would be perfect for that fundraiser you're running, or that gift shop you own ;). Why not order a couple thousand today?

New Camera and Backlog!
I've been doing lots of photography recently, and I have a huge backlog of photos to sort! It's so tough to sort and edit when the weather's nice and the shooting's good. Someday I'll get around to it...
On the exciting news side (for me anyway) after months of consideration I finally bit the bullet and bought a new camera body - a Canon EOS 7D. This is a considerable step-up from my previous body (which has served me well) and I am excited to get it all figured out. Here are a few shots from the first couple of times out:
Question Mark (Polygonia interrogationis)
Common Whitetail (Libellula lydia)
American Toad (Anaxyrus americanus)
So far so good I think! More to come!

Lightning!
Excellent storm last night! Since I have nothing better to do, I spent some time leaning out my back door with my camera. Managed to snag a couple of lightning shots. Not the greatest backdrop for lightning photography, but fun nonetheness!
